When you have a web site, visitors will come back if you give them a reason to do so.  If you maintain content on the site that is interesting to you, then the visitors will probably not be the ones that are good for your business, but are your competitors.  You need to have content that is attractive to your intended visitors.

California recently passed a law requiring merchants with a presence in CA to collect sales tax.  Amazon's affliliates are deemed a presence, so the battle has begun.  Amazon cancelled all CA affiliate contracts, so my Amazon search block in the left margin was worthless to me. 

Amazon negotiated a bill with California that will require them to start collecting sales tax in October, 2012.  That will cost California about $200 million.
