Our trip was to Osoyoos, BC, to attend the Escape Trailer Rally and then to visit family and friends on the way home.

On our way home, we spent a day at Crater Lake National Park.  It has been 4 years since we were last there.  This is a place where you first look over the rim at the lake and just say, Oh My!!  It is really gorgeous and so I had to take a bunch of photos.  On this trip, the eastern rim road was still closed because of snow, and the northern entrance and western rim road had just opened a few days before we arrived, so there was lots of snow visible.  It was calm so the reflections on the lake were great.  It looked like there was still a skim of ice on the lake below us.
At Discovery Point, the birds and chipmunks were active so we stopped and watched them cavort for quite a while.  We could see many peaks in Oregon, and could see Mount Shasta, too.  Then it was time to return to our base camp at Valley of the Rogue State Park along I-5 before starting home the next day.

North Cascades National Park is in north central Washington, up against the Canadian border.  It contains several recreation areas centered around its lakes.  We drove through the park on our way to Seattle, and spent the night at Newhalem campground which has nicely spaced sites.  There are a number of hiking trails available from the campground and also a walk to the National Park visitor center, which is a place we always visit when we are at a National Park.  We learn so much about the park: history, geography, flora, fauna. ​
It was rather funny to us as we pulled in to the campground to see another Escape 19 trailer pulled by another white Jeep Grand Cherokee.  Its occupants, Don and Cheryl, were also at the Escape Trailer rally and were in a site adjacent to us there, so it was deja vu.  They are from Mississippi and have traveled about 50,000 miles in their trailer, so they way exceeded our 19,000 miles.  Of course, theirs is one year older ;-) so I guess we still have time to catch up with them.

​We drove along the main road, Route 20, and stopped at many points along the road.  We couldn't really see Ross Lake from the highway, but it must be at least 20 miles long.  It is right next to Diablo Lake.  There is a resort on Ross Lake that can only be reached by walking to it, so it is quite remote.  We didn't have time to walk there this trip.  We will save that for our next visit.
]]><![CDATA[Osoyoos, BC, May 24-26, 2018]]>Sat, 26 May 2018 07:00:00 GMThttps://www.dornbush.net/2018-osoyoos-bc/osoyoos-bc-may-24-26-2018This year, we decided to attend the annual Escape Trailer Owners Appreciation Rally which is held about Memorial Day in NK'MIP (that's ink-a-meep) campground in Osoyoos, BC, which is a great place to visit.  I failed to take many photos here, but I have included what I took.  There were about 150 trailers at the rally.  We saw some of Osoyoos as well as enjoying meeting many other Escape Trailer owners.  We met several from the Bay Area, which was fun.  We were assigned site 77, which was right on the waterfront.  The photo is the view out of our back window of the trailer.  The first night, there was quite a thunderstorm that passed over us.  I miss the feel and sounds of a thunderstorm which are so rare in California.  We saw a double rainbow after the storm passed.
It took 3 days to get to Osoyoos, so we stopped in Chiloquin, OR and Yakima, WA on our way there.
Osoyoos, BC, is on the shores of Osoyoos Lake, which is on the Okanagan River, which is in the middle of the northern tip of the Sonora Desert.  On the shores of the river/ lake, things are lush, and the wine grapes grow well, with 60 wineries right around there.  Go a mile or so from the river, and it's desert.  When you drive east out of the river valley, there is a view point where you can see over the river valley to the North Cascades.

We started today on our trip to the Escape Customer Appreciation Rally in Osooyos, BC, just "down the street" from the Escape Trailer factory in Chilliwack, BC.  Every year about this time, they host a rally for Escape trailer owners.  We thought we should go to one, so we are on our way.  Today, we traveled 384 miles to Chiloquin, OR, and are staying overnight in Waterwheel RV Park.  It is a delightful place on the banks of the Williamston River.  Our neighbor told us there is good fly fishing here.  We are enjoying the peace and quiet after a long day of driving.  Tomorrow, we are off to Yakima, WA, where we will camp overnight at the Yakima Sportsman State Park.
